Maia D. Heymann
Senior Managing Director
Maia has been active in the start-up community, in Boston and Palo Alto, financing and investing in technology companies for over 23 years. Her background as a VC, an LP in VC funds, and a technology banker, coupled with her individual investing activities, gives her a unique perspective on financing early-stage companies. In 2012 Maia was named by Xconomy as a top angel investor in New England.
Maia joined CommonAngels Ventures as the Senior Managing Director in 2013. She assumed the leadership role after having been a member since 2006, a Board member since 2009, and the Chairman from 2010-2011. Previously, Maia was a Managing Director at Shott Capital Management where she was responsible for discretionary VC and PE fund selection for institutional clients.
Prior to joining Shott, Maia held several senior positions at the banks that ultimately became Bank of America. From 1993-2008 she was with Bank of Boston and was involved in corporate finance, private equity, and venture capital pursuits, having started in Palo Alto as a technology lender providing structured financing solutions for corporate growth, acquisitions, and LBOs. In 1999 Maia opened and managed the Palo Alto office for BancBoston Ventures; she developed the strategy, hired the team, and built the investment portfolio. In 2002 Maia moved back to Boston and eventually headed BancBoston Ventures within Bank of America’s Global Private Equity Group. She managed a large, diverse portfolio of direct investments, maximized returns, assumed numerous board and observer seats, chaired the investment committee, and led a team of investment professionals.
Maia received a B.A. magna cum laude, from Wellesley College. She currently serves of the boards of Apperian, Fiksu, and Wymsee, and is a board observer at Help Scout, HapYak, inStream Media, FamilyID, Linkable Networks, and ownCloud.
